Featuring rich blue, thick, seer suckered, puckered leaves that tend to cup, the Bid Daddy Hosta grows up to a height of 28 inches and spread over 40 inches. A sport of H. ‘Fortunei Robusta Variegated’, the Hosta Big Daddy thrives well in shade. When grown in limited sun exposure, the leaves retain their blue color through most part of the growing season. However, they could turn to green with the progress of the season. Big Daddy Hosta is slug resistant.
Flowers appear on 36-inch scapes in mid summer. The flowers are funnel-shaped and their color could vary from pale lavender to white. Big Daddy is easy to grow and require low maintenance and could be put to multiple uses — along shady borders, woodland gardens, and even as a specimen.
We have a similar hosta plant called Hosta Blue Vision.
