Blue Mouse Ears hosta have heart-shaped, silvery blue leaves that roll up at the edges giving the impression of mouse ears and hence the name. Blue Mouse Ears forms thick, symmetric clumps that are miniature in size. This variety of hosta usually grows up to 6 inches in height with a width of 12 inches. Although Blue Mouse Ears is a mini-sized selection, it is resilient, tough, resists slugs, and prefers well-drained and moist soil.
Blue Mouse Ears bloom violet flowers on 8-inch scapes in midsummer, buds are balloon shaped. A sport of Hosta “Blue Cadet,” Blue Mouse Ears hostas are excellent for use in shaded rock gardens or as hosta displays. American Hosta Growers Association had named it as the “2008 Hosta of the Year.”
