Wild European Ginger is the ideal companion plant for hosta. It has deep dark glossy green foliage, grows about 6-8" high. Use as a ground cover planting, looks great mixed with hosta. European Ginger requires shade, and will grow in even deeper shade than hosta. European Ginger is not a true ginger, and is not to be eaten. It gets its name from the faint ginger scent of its roots.
