Fire Island hosta can brighten up your garden with its bright-yellow golden foliage that contrasts the dark red stems. It’s a medium-sized selection that can grow up to a height of 14 inches with a spread of around 24 inches. The leaves are shiny, rippled, and possess a seersucker texture. As the season progresses, the leaves of Fire Island hosta turn chartreuse in color. You can obtain the best colors by exposing this hosta to some good morning sun. However, if you expose it to too much sun, the leaves will blanch and burn. It prefers partial to full shade.
In late summer, Fire Island hosta blooms tubular-shaped, lavender flowers on 18-inch scapes. The flowers go well with the overall color of the mound. Hosta Fire Island can be used for groundcover, in woodland and border gardens and can even be planted in pots and containers.
Make sure to check out the Hosta Miss Susie another gold hosta plant with red stems.
