Hosta Great Expectations are known for their large, oval-shaped, corrugated, basal leaves that are variegated, blue-green and bright yellow in color. The central portion of the leaves emerges bright yellow in color that with maturity turns creamy yellow in color. The leaves feature a wide band of irregular blue-green margin that streaks inward.
A sport of Hosta sieboldiana ‘Elegans’, Great Expectations hosta can grow up to a height of 20 to 24 inches and have a spread of 31 to 35 inches. White, bell-shaped flowers bloom early in summer on 34-inch tall scapes. It grows well in partial to full shade and prefers well-drained, evenly moist soil. Great Expectations Hosta can be put to a number of uses, from woodland gardens, shaded pathways, border gardens, and even as ground cover.
