Growers looking to inject some brightness into the shaded areas of their garden can opt for the Loyalist hostas that look brilliant all summer. One of the most popular perennials, Loyalist hostas can very well hold its own as the star of a spot, or complement other plants.
It has thick, broad, white-centered leaves with dark green margins. Its height can range from 12-15″, and its width can vary between 24 to 30 inches. Loyalist Hosta blooms pale lavender flowers on 20″ scapes in midsummer.
Loyalist Hostas grow well in partial to full shade and prefer moist but well-drained soil. It is drought resistant and is known for its ability to withstand heat and humidity. Available since 1998, it first appeared as a bud sport of Hosta Patriot. In contrast to Loyalist Hostas, Patriot Hostas are green-centered with white margins.
