A variegated hosta variety that changes its leaf color throughout the season, Hosta Whirlwind can be an excellent addition to your garden. The unusually wavy and twisted leaves of this mid-sized hosta form dense mounds.
As the season progresses, Hosta Whirlwind’s heart-shaped to ovate leaves go from being pale chartreuse in spring to bright yellow in summer, before finally fading to a muted green in late summer. The leaves have wide irregular margins of streaking olive green.
A mound of Whirlwind hosta typically grows up to a height of 18-20 inches and spreads over 31-39 inches. Pale lavender flowers appear on 22-24″ leafy scapes in late summer.
Hosta Whirlwind thrives particularly well in partial to full shade and is quite easy to grow and maintain. It prefers average to moist soil conditions and displays good tolerance towards multiple soil types.
Whirlwind hostas can be used in borders, edgings, grown in woodland gardens, in pots and containers, and as a cut flower.
